CARB Clean Truck Check, checked off

Whether you run long-haul rigs, a construction fleet, dump trucks, or a single owner-operated tractor, Clean Truck Check is the deadline you're most likely to forget. The CC40 plugs into an eligible truck, automatically attempts testing when the vehicle is ready, and submits eligible results to CARB through its built-in cellular connection. The check that checks itself.

You won't figure this out alone. Call and a real person — the owner — tells you exactly what your trucks need.

Why this matters

Missing a deadline can put your registration on hold

Noncompliance with Clean Truck Check can lead to CARB enforcement action and California DMV registration holds — and can interfere with fleet operations, customer requirements, and access to certain facilities.

What it actually does for you

Automatic testing takes deadline tracking off your plate

You're already running loads, crews, and equipment. The CC40 carries one of those deadlines so you don't have to — no testing appointments to schedule, minimal disruption, and no manual testing for eligible OBD trucks. Whether it's a Freightliner pulling freight or a dump truck on a job site, it tests on its own, automatically submits eligible results to CARB, and keeps the rig earning. Our customers say it best: they stopped thinking about it.

It tests on its own

The CC40 performs the test automatically when the truck is ready and submits it straight to CARB. Nothing for you or your driver to do.

Plug-and-go install

It ships programmed to your truck with the right cable. Plug it into the diagnostic port, mount it, done. Our customers say this is the easiest part.

Its own cellular

No Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth pairing, no driver's phone. The connection is built into the device and included for the whole term.

Fewer missed deadlines

A missed test can freeze your registration and park a truck. The CC40 automatically attempts testing when the truck is ready and submits eligible results on its own — greatly reducing the risk of a missed deadline. That's the worry off your shoulders.

How the CC40 works

Set it up once. It tests from then on.

01

You send the vehicle info

VIN, license plate, engine details, and the testing schedule for that specific truck.

02

We program the device

Each CC40 is locked to one vehicle. One truck, one device — no swapping between units.

03

Plug it in

It ships with the right cable and powers itself from the OBD port — no wiring, no electrician. Connect it, mount it, done.

04

It tests automatically

Built-in cellular submits the test when the vehicle is ready. No app, no phone, no driver involvement.

Installed and running

Real trucks. Real installs.

Plug the cable into the diagnostic port, mount the device, and it goes to work. Here it is in the cab.

Your ELD keeps its port

Your truck has one diagnostic port, and there's a good chance something is already plugged into it. The CC40's cable has a pass-through connector, so your ELD or GPS unit stays connected and keeps working. Nothing gets unplugged. Nothing gets chosen over anything else.

  • DEVICEThe CC40 itself, programmed to your specific vehicle before it ships.
  • CABLEThe correct J1939 cable for your truck, with a pass-through connector for your existing ELD or GPS.
  • CELLULARBuilt into the device and included for the service term. Nothing to activate.
  • INSTALLPlug the cable into the port, plug your ELD into the pass-through, mount the device label-side up. Done.
Why fleets choose A+ Plus

You're calling the owner, not a call center

More than 20 years in automotive repair, smog, emissions, and fleet service — and the person who answers when you call. No call center, no runaround.

Less downtime

Trucks stay in your yard. Testing happens between runs instead of replacing them.

No unnecessary trips

No shop appointments, no driver hours burned sitting in a testing line across town.

Clear communication

You get told what passed, what didn't, and what to do about it. In plain language.

Retesting support

Retesting is included under our standard service policy, so a second pass is already accounted for.

Fleet pricing

Per-vehicle pricing drops as the count goes up — from $95 for one down to $50 each at 20+.

CARB experience

4,000+ tests and a credentialed tester who knows how the program actually runs day to day.

Got older trucks too?

Got older trucks? We test the ones the CC40 can't

The CC40 covers OBD trucks — generally 2013-and-newer diesel and 2018-and-newer alternative fuel. Got an older dump truck, water truck, or a 2010 tractor that needs smoke and visual (OVI) testing? A credentialed tester comes to your yard or job site. One company covers your whole mixed fleet.

Clean Truck Check, briefly

What the program actually asks of you

California's Clean Truck Check requires periodic emissions compliance testing for most heavy-duty vehicles operating in the state. Which test your truck needs depends mostly on its engine year.

Please verify your own deadlines

Requirements, testing frequency, and deadlines are set and controlled by CARB and may change. Always confirm your vehicle's status and due dates in the CTC-VIS portal. This page is general information, not a compliance determination.

  • >14,000 LBMost covered heavy-duty vehicles are over 14,000 pounds GVWR.
  • 2013+2013-and-newer diesel vehicles generally use OBD testing — this is what the CC40 automates.
  • 2018+2018-and-newer alternative-fuel vehicles are generally OBD-eligible as well.
  • ≤20122012-and-older diesel vehicles generally require smoke and visual (OVI) testing. The CC40 does not cover these — mobile testing does.
  • CTC-VISYour compliance deadlines live in the CARB portal. Check them there, or send us your VINs and we'll help you read it.
Before you can test, you have to register

Lost in the CARB portal? We'll help you sort it out.

Every truck has to be registered in CARB's CTC-VIS system, an annual fee paid, and testing reported — before any of the testing even matters. The portal is written for regulators, not truck owners, and getting it wrong is how people end up out of compliance without realizing it.

So we help you through it. Send us your fleet and we can assist with CTC-VIS registration, entering your vehicle information, fee guidance, deadline review, and confirming that submitted results appear in the portal. You remain responsible for your account, fees, deadlines, and overall compliance — but you don't have to figure it out alone.

We help with
  • CTC-VIS registration & setup
  • Entering your vehicles correctly the first time
  • Annual compliance fee guidance
  • Confirming submitted results appear in the portal
  • Reading your deadlines so you don't have to
Not sure if you're even registered right? That's exactly the call to make.
Cross-border fleets · Bilingual support

Clean Truck Check for trucks that cross into California

Qualifying heavy-duty vehicles operating on California roads may be subject to Clean Truck Check — even when they're registered outside California, or outside the United States. Many cross-border carriers and owner-operators aren't sure whether the program applies to them, or how to comply from across the border.

We provide bilingual support and understand the compliance challenges cross-border fleets face. We help cross-border fleets understand California requirements and automate eligible OBD testing with the CC40 — reducing the compliance work associated with operating in California.

The part no device can do

The one part we won't automate: the phone

The CARB rules are written for regulators, not for you. Most people read them once and still aren't sure they're doing it right — and there's nobody to ask. That's the part we fix that no gadget can. Call and you get Danny: 20+ years in emissions, who tells you plainly which of your trucks need what, and when.

What fleet owners say

"I stopped thinking about it"

These are real A+ Plus customers, in their own words. They consistently mention the simple installation, direct support, and relief from repeatedly scheduling eligible OBD tests.

★★★★★
The CC40 has made CARB Clean Truck Check compliance much easier for our fleet. The convenience and peace of mind of not having to schedule an appointment or find a shop to perform the test has been completely worth it. Installation was very easy, and I plan to install the CC40 in all future trucks we purchase.

★★★★★
We've had a great experience using the CC40 for our fleet. It was incredibly easy to plug in and start using right away. The biggest benefit has been not scheduling mobile testing appointments anymore. It automatically submits the tests to CARB, keeping our trucks compliant while they're out on the road. We're adding another device for one of our other businesses.

The CC40 has made our compliance process much easier. Installation was simple, and the automatic testing and reporting save us time while keeping our vehicle compliant and on the road. The biggest benefit is the cost savings — we no longer need to schedule on-site CARB-certified technicians for testing appointments.

Questions fleets ask

Straight answers

Does my truck need Clean Truck Check testing?
Most heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 pounds GVWR operating in California are covered. The reliable answer for your specific truck is in the CTC-VIS portal — send us your VINs and we'll walk through it with you.
What's the difference between mobile testing and the CC40?
Mobile testing is a person: a credentialed tester comes to your location and performs the test. The CC40 is a device: it stays plugged into one specific truck and performs the test itself when the vehicle is ready. Mobile works on any covered vehicle. The CC40 only works on OBD-eligible ones.
Does the CC40 require Wi-Fi?
No. Cellular service is built into the device. No Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth pairing, no app on the driver's phone, nothing for your drivers to remember to do.
Will the CC40 work on older trucks?
No. The CC40 is for OBD vehicles — generally 2013-and-newer diesel and 2018-and-newer alternative fuel, over 14,000 pounds GVWR, with a compatible J1939 or J1979 connection. 2012-and-older vehicles need smoke and visual testing, which we handle with mobile testing.
What happens if my truck isn't ready to pass?
Neither service repairs vehicles. If a truck has a check-engine light, stored trouble codes, incomplete monitors, a communication problem, or an actual emissions defect, it won't pass until that's fixed. We'll tell you exactly what we're seeing so you can get it addressed, and retesting is included under our standard service policy.
Can you test an entire fleet at one location?
Yes — that's the point of mobile testing. Bring the trucks to one yard and we test them in a single visit. Pricing improves with volume: $85 each at 2–5 vehicles, $75 at 6–10, $65 at 11–19, and $50 each at 20 or more.
How do I check my deadline?
Your compliance dates are in CARB's CTC-VIS portal. If you'd rather not dig through it, send us your VIN list and we'll tell you what's due and when.
Does a passing test automatically clear DMV issues?
A passing Clean Truck Check test is a Clean Truck Check test. It doesn't resolve unrelated DMV registration holds, other program requirements, or anything else on the vehicle's record. If you have a hold, check what's driving it before assuming a test clears it.
